“Setting the standard in Southampton”
OLDE TOWNE DESIGN GUIDELINES, SOUTHAMPTON, NEW YORK
Strategies:
- Create a limited number of residential lots based on historic lotting patterns that perpetuate Southampton at its best.
- Establish open spaces to retain historic view corridors and preserve Southampton’s scenic character.
- Install a mature landscape (including two-hundred-fifty 30’ tall London Planetrees) to blend with existing streets.
- Facilitate local approvals by implementing rigorous design guidelines.
- Prepare architectural and landscape designs to meet the estate buyer’s expectations while blending with the distinctive Southampton character.
Outcomes:
- A sensitive development approach that led to broad community support.
- Town planning board approval of the plan by unanimous vote.
- Set new standards for infill development in the Hamptons.
