“Setting the standard in Southampton”

OLDE TOWNE DESIGN GUIDELINES, SOUTHAMPTON, NEW YORK

Strategies:

  • Create a limited number of residential lots based on historic lotting patterns that perpetuate Southampton at its best.
  • Establish open spaces to retain historic view corridors and preserve Southampton’s scenic character.
  • Install a mature landscape (including two-hundred-fifty 30’ tall London Planetrees) to blend with existing streets.
  • Facilitate local approvals by implementing rigorous design guidelines.
  • Prepare architectural and landscape designs to meet the estate buyer’s expectations while blending with the distinctive Southampton character.

Outcomes:

  • A sensitive development approach that led to broad community support.
  • Town planning board approval of the plan by unanimous vote.
  • Set new standards for infill development in the Hamptons.
